The Drake University volleyball team continues its non-conference season with three-games at the Eastern Illinois tournament on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9-10.
The Bulldogs first game comes Friday night at 7 p.m. against host Eastern Illinois. Drake will then face Louisiana Tech and Bowling Green on Saturday with matches at 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively. Drake's first opponent this weekend, Eastern Illinois, is 2-6 this season after winning its last two matches. Louisiana Tech is 3-3 after falling to Memphis in four sets last weekend and Bowling Green is 3-2 after defeating IPFW and Northern Kentucky, 3-0, to win the BGSU Invitational last weekend.
Drake enters the tournament with a 6-2 record with both losses coming in five sets. Last weekend at the Omaha Classic, the Bulldogs went 2-1 by defeating Ball State and Omaha but falling to UMKC.
Chandelle Davidson, tallied 66 assists throughout the weekend and was named to the Omaha Classic all-tournament team.
The Bulldogs currently lead the nation in total digs with 575. Senior libero
Michelle Thommi (Omaha, Neb.) has tallied 165 of those digs to rank second in the nation. Offensively, junior
Kyla Inderski (Urbandale, Iowa) leads the MVC in total kills and currently sits 12
th in the nation in that category with 124 kills.
Following the Eastern Illinois Tournament, the Bulldog's will travel to Macomb, Ill., for the Western Illinois Tournament Sept. 16-17.
