Men’s Basketball Travels To UNI

Bulldogs aiming to get their first road win of the season

The Drake University men's basketball team makes the short trip to Cedar Falls on Sunday for the first of its two annual meetings with UNI. Tipoff at the McLeod Center is set for 3 p.m. with the contest being broadcast on The Valley on ESPN3 and on radio via ESPN Des Moines 1350-AM.
 
The Bulldogs hit the road as winners in four of their last six games after defeating Indiana State, 87-70, for on Wedneday evening for their fourth-straight home win.
 
Wednesday's win also improved the Bulldogs to 3-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference standings and into a tie for third place in the league. UNI takes to its home court following seven-straight losses to sit at 0-5 in the MVC. However, the Panthers have been without the services of preseason MVC Player of the Year Jeremy Morgan, who could potentially return to the lineup on Sunday.
 
In their last four wins, the Bulldogs have averaged 94.5 points per game while shooting 50.2 percent from the floor.Under head coach Jeff Rutter, the Bulldogs are averaging 81.1 points per game and have made nine or more three-pointers in seven of the nine games to rank rank second in the MVC in scoring in conference games.
 
In MVC action, guard De'Antae McMurray (Alton, Ill.) is averaging 12.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. He also ranks fifth in the MVC in assist-to-turnover ratio while Ore Arogundade (Chicago, Ill.) has also experienced an offensive resurgence. The junior is putting up 12.8 points per game in the last six games and is 14-of-24 from the three-point arc.
 
C.J. Rivers (Cahokia, Ill.) is coming off a career-best nine assists against Indiana State and the junior has a 15-to-2 assist-to-turnover ratio in the last four games. His passing has been emblematic of the Bulldogs' offense of late as the team has had 10 double-digit scoring performances from eight different players in the last two games.
 
Following Sunday's matinee, the Bulldogs return home to host SIU on Wednesday, Jan. 18. The contest will be the second between the two this season. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on The Valley on ESPN3.
