DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's basketball team defeated Loyola, 89-46, Friday evening, Jan. 20, in Missouri Valley Conference play at the Knapp Center.
Drake (14-4, 7-0 MVC) had a 20-point run in the first eight minutes of the game until Loyola (2-15, 1-5 MVC) scored at the 2:01 mark of the first quarter. The Bulldogs lengthened their lead over the Ramblers, finishing with a 48-23 halftime lead. This is the third-straight game that all 10 available Bulldogs scored two or more points and all played 10 or more minutes of action.
Senior
Lizzy Wendall (Blue Springs, Mo.) led the Bulldogs once again in scoring with 25 points on 10-of 14-shooting in addition to three steals in 22 minutes. Freshman
Becca Hittner (Urbandale, Iowa) recorded her second career double-double with 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Sophomore
Sammie Bachrodt (Wichita, Kan.) added a career-high of six assists in addition to her nine points, seven rebounds and four steals. Freshman
Brenni Rose (Shawnee, Kan.) scored 10 points and equaled her career-high of eight rebounds.
As a team, Drake shot 56.5 percent (35-of-62) from the floor and benefited from a total of 27 points from the bench and 24 team assists. The team also registered a total of 14 steals and four blocks. Drake controlled the paint with a 52-14 advantage and a 46-23 rebounding margin. The Bulldogs forced 17 Ramblers' turnovers and scored 23 points off the mistakes. Drake led by as many as 46 points late in the fourth quarter on its way to its eighth-straight game.
The Bulldogs conclude their homestead on Sunday, Jan. 22 as they welcome Indiana State to the Knapp Center at 2 p.m. The game will broadcast on
