The 2016 Drake University football team put the finishing touches on its season with the 119th annual Channing Smith Banquet on Saturday.
Fifth-year senior and team captain
Taylor Coleman was the most honored player of the evening as he took home three awards.
Coleman was awarded one of the banquet's top awards, the Torchbearer Award. The award signifies a member of the team who leads by example and creates a culture and excellence of leadership amongst the team. He also received the Gene Schultz Award. The annual honor is bestowed upon an upperclassman who displays the highest standards of leadership, citizenship and personal conduct on the field and in his academic and campus activities. Coleman was also honored with the
Paul Morrison All In Award.
Fifth-year senior
Eric Saubert was named the Johnny Bright MVP and was also honored as the We Are Relentless Award.
Fifth-year seniors
Aaron Melton and
Zach Zlabis were received the team's Theme Award for the personifying the team's season-long the and mission 'Rise Up'.
The team's top workers on the practice field also received much deserved recognition for their efforts in preparing the Bulldogs to compete week in and week out with the Scout Team Awards.
Alex Bray was honored with the Offensive Scout Team Award.
Victor Jergens earned the defensive award and
Ross Kennedy received the special teams honor.
