ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drake University's
Reed Timmer (New Berlin, Wis.) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week presented by Eagle Bank and Trust Company for the second-straight week.
Timmer, a member of the Drake men's basketball team, Timmer averaged 20.0 points on 14-of-24 (.583) shooting with seven rebounds and five assists in a pair of MVC games last week. He had 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting in the win over Loyola to help the Bulldogs record back-to-back 100-point games for the first time since the 1979-80 season. He then led Drake in scoring with 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting at SIU with a pair of three-pointers as he scored 13 of his points in the second half to help Drake rally from a first-half deficit before ultimately falling. Timmer is now averaging 19.7 points per game in his career against SIU and also moved into 17th all-time at Drake with 1,102 career points.
As a sophomore, Timmer was named the MVC Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and has now earned MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors seven times in his career.
His most recent honor marks the 10th time this season a Drake student-athlete has been named the MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week. To qualify for the honor, student-athlete must carry a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
