The Drake University volleyball team puts its 10-game win streak, the fifth-longest in the nation, and undefeated Missouri Valley Conference record on the line this weekend with a pair of home matches against Missouri State and Southern Illinois.
The Bulldogs' series begins against fellow 6-0 MVC team Missouri State Friday night before facing Southern Illinois Saturday evening.
Both matches are set for a 7 p.m. start and will be broadcast on
The Valley on ESPN3.
Coming off their 10
th straight win, the Bulldogs hold claim to the fifth longest win streak in the NCAA. Drake's win streak and perfect conference record will be put to the test against fellow 6-0 MVC team Missouri State who comes to the Knapp Center holding the longest active road win streak in the NCAA at 16 games. The Bears have won seven straight games including 22-straight conference matchups.
Last weekend the Bulldogs came out unscathed after taking their perfect record on the road. Drake defeated Evansville 3-1 before sweeping Indiana State 3-0. The team's current 10-match win streak ties for the second longest in program history. Drake was led by senior
Kyla Inderski (Urbandale, Iowa) who tallied her eighth double-double in the last nine games grabbing 19 kills and 33 digs over the weekend.
The Bulldogs' defense continues to be a strong point as freshman
Kylee Macke (Ankeny, Iowa) earned MVC Defensive Player of the Week honors following a 38 dig performance against Evansville and Indiana State. Macke helped hold Drake's opponents to just a 0.098 hitting percentage in the two wins.
Following its sweep over Southern Illinois last weekend, Missouri State moved up to No. 44 in the NCAA RPI report as well as receiving eight votes in the NCAA Top-25. Southern Illinois enters the weekend with a 3-3 MVC record and 4-13 overall. The Salukis will look to bounce back after dropping their last two matches to Missouri State and Indiana State.
Following the tough-weekend the Bulldogs head to nationally ranked in-state rival Northern Iowa on Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. Northern Iowa is currently ranked No. 20 in the Coaches Poll and sits tied with Drake and Missouri State at the top of Valley standings with a 6-0 record entering this weekend.
