POWELLS POINT, N.C. – Junior
Jack Kennedy and freshman
Tim Lim recorded 54-hole career-bests to lead the Drake men's golf team to a seventh-place finish at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate Tuesday.
"The conditions were tough today with rain on our front nine and wind during the second nine. I was proud of how we played improving each day. We really got it going on the back nine with the team getting 17 birdies! We had to count five doubles which hurts us but overall I thought we played great today," said Drake head coach
Matt Lewis.
Kennedy fired a one-under par 70 to finish the event two-under par, 211 (72-69-70), and tied for 14th-place. Lim also finished two-under par, 211 (69-71-71), after shooting even par 71 on the final day of the 54-hole event.
"Jack and Tim were solid again today and both had great tournaments. Jack really had it going today -3 thru 15 and struggled with a bogey and double on 16 and 17. I was impressed with him bouncing back with a birdie on 18," said Lewis.
Senior
Drew Ison shot a one-over par, 72, for a total score of 217 (73-72-72).
"Drew had a rough start with two doubles but hung in there and played three-under the rest of this round," said Lewis.
Sophomore
Kyle MacDonald matched is a career-best with a one-under par 70 for a total score of 220 (74-76-70). Sophomore
Chase Wicklund wrapped up the team's effort with a score of 227 (76-73-78).
The Bulldogs totaled a season-best one-under par 283 on the final day for a total score of 856 (288-285-283) to finish in seventh-place. Drake was just five strokes back from fourth-place North Dakota State and two strokes from cracking the top-five. Campbell set a tournament record for a team score of 821 (270-270-781) to win the 18-team event.
"I am really happy with how we finished up this fall. The team has great depth, during any round any of these guys could shoot under par. I am excited for what we can accomplish in the spring," said Lewis.
The ODU/OBX Intercollegiate concludes the fall season for Drake and the Bulldogs will open the spring season on Feb. 12-13 at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play in Tampa, Fla.
