DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University volleyball team hosts UNI Saturday afternoon in the final regular-season match for both teams. First serve is set for 5 p.m. at the Knapp Center as the Bulldogs honor the program's two seniors while trying to add to what is already one of the best seasons in program history.
Following the match, the Bulldogs will honor the two members of the senior class who have been instrumental in resurrecting the Drake program.
Odessa Cody (Chicago, Ill.) and
Kyla Inderski (Urbandale, Iowa) have helped take the program from 11 wins their freshman year to 23 wins this season, tied for the third most in program history since 1982.
Cody has played in 64 matches in her career with 287 total kills. As a junior, she registered 186 kills. That same season, she recorded a career-high 19 kills against Evansville on 42 attacks. This season she has recorded eight or more kills in a match three times to help the Bulldogs' most efficient offense in her Drake career.
Inderski is putting the finishing touches on one of the most decorated careers ever by a Bulldog. Her 1,421 career kills ranks as the second most in school history and 25
th among active NCAA Division I student-athletes. Additionally, she has the fourth most digs in school history with 1,499 and her combined 2,920 career kills and digs are easily the most ever by a Bulldog. She needs 41 more digs to move into third all-time in that category as well.
Those seniors lead the Bulldogs back into the Knapp Center with a 23-8 overall record in hopes of holding onto the No. 3 seed for the upcoming Missouri Valley Conference Tournament with a 12-5 conference record. UNI travels to Drake with a 24-7 overall mark and a 14-3 mark in league play to secure the No. 2 seed.
Earlier this season, UNI clipped a red-hot Drake, 3-0 in Cedar Falls.
Following Saturday's match, both teams will travel to Normal, Ill., for the MVC Tournament set to begin Nov. 23.
