ST. LOUIS, Mo. – For the second time this season, Drake University's
Emily Plock (Altoona, Iowa) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Volleyball Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday, Nov. 6.
Plock tied for the team lead in kills over the weekend with 27 in a pair of MVC wins while hitting a staggering .362 in the two matches. Averaging 3.86 kills per set, Plock also added a pair of blocks at the net. Plock has now hit .300 or better in five MVC matches this season.
After opening the weekend with 12 kills on 25 attempts against Indiana State, she recorded a team high 15 kills in the 3-0 win against Evansville. Earlier in the season, Plock recorded a career-high 19 kills at Evansville.
Plock, who was also named Freshman of the Week for the week of Aug. 28, is only the second MVC freshman to receive the honor multiple times this season. Stef Jankiewicz from Illinois State has received the honor three times.
The weekly MVC honor marks the fifth for the Bulldogs this season and the third Freshman of the Week honor. Previously,
Kyla Inderski (Urbandale, Iowa) was named Player of the Week (Oct. 2),
Kylee Macke (Ankeny, Iowa) the Defensive Player of the Week (Oct. 9), and
Gillian Gergen (Janesville, Iowa) the Freshman of the Week (Oct. 16)
Plock and the Bulldogs begin to wind down their season with a pair of road matches at Southern Illinois and Missouri State Nov. 11 and Nov. 12 before closing out the regular season at home against Northern Iowa Nov. 18.
