Women’s Basketball Cruises Past Iowa Wesleyan, 102-25, in Annual Pack the Knapp Game

More than 4,000 Des Moines and local area elementary and middle school students filled the stands for a fun morning of basketball, educational and fun activities. Total attendance was a season-high 4,615 fans.

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's basketball team cruised past Iowa Wesleyan, 102-25, in the program's annual Pack the Knapp for Character presented by the YMCA of Greater Des Moines game. More than 4,000 Des Moines and local area elementary and middle school students filled the stands for a fun morning of basketball, educational and fun activities. Total attendance was a season-high 4,615 fans.
 
Drake (5-4) was led in scoring by two of its local student-athletes as freshman Hannah Fuller (West Des Moines, Iowa) and sophomore Becca Hittner (Urbandale, Iowa) each scored 18 points. Fuller's total is a career-high for the West Des Moines Valley product while Hittner from Dowling Catholic recorded 18 points for the second consecutive game.
 
Joining Fuller and Hittner in double figures was sophomore Brenni Rose (Shawnee, Kan.) with 13 points, freshman Katie Van Scyoc (Green Lake, Wis.) equaled her career-high with 11 points and junior Sammie Bachrodt (Wichita, Kan.) added 10 points.
 
Redshirt junior Maddy Dean (Jordan, Minn.) nearly recorded a triple double with nine points, nine rebounds and a career-high eight assists. Rose filled the stat sheet with nine rebounds, four assists and steals and two blocks. Senior Paige Greiner (Williamsburg, Iowa) and freshman Maddie Monahan (Silver Lake, Minn.) each scored nine points.
 
Monahan scored the game's first points 24 seconds in as the Bulldogs never trailed. Iowa Wesleyan (0-8) didn't score until just over four minutes and finished with just three points in the opening quarter, 37-3. The three points are a program-low for a quarter by an opponent.
 
Drake, which came into the game as one of the top passing teams in the country in average assists per game at 21.3, recorded 33 assists on 38 field goals. Six Bulldogs finished with three or more assists. Drake knocked down 13-of-25 (52.0 percent) three-pointer, pulled down 42 rebounds and forced 30 turnovers.
 
Following Tuesday's game, Drake will welcome Nebraska on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest at the Knapp Center. The game is part of a holiday doubleheader with the Drake men's basketball team, which will host Omaha at 5 p.m. The games will be broadcast on The Valley on ESPN3.
