DES MOINES, Iowa - Two notable former Drake University student-athletes will be honored by Drake Athletics with the Double D Award on Saturday, Feb. 18, in a ceremony before the men's basketball game against Missouri State and a halftime of the contest.
Wayne Kreklow, a former Drake men's basketball player, and Lindsay Whorton, a standout women's basketball player, will be presented the award for their athletic accomplishments at Drake and their continued success in their careers and communities.
The Double D award is presented each year to former Drake athletes for achievements in their professions and or community service since earning their degrees from Drake. Since it's inception in 1968, the Double D honor has now been presented to 254 former Drake letter winners, including Kreklow and Whorton.
Both recipients will be honored at a reception and ceremony held on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. at the Courtside Club in the Shivers Basketball Practice Facility. Kreklow and Whorton will also be recognized at halftime of the men's basketball game against Missouri State that evening, which tips of at 8 p.m. in the Knapp Center.

He was a letter winner for men's basketball from 1975-1979 and earned All-America, All-MVC and all-district honors as a two-time team captain. He was named to the Drake's All-Century basketball team and was a member of the NBA World Champion Boston Celtics in 1980-81.
Kreklow is currently the head volleyball coach at the University of Missouri where he and his wife Susan have built a national power with 13 NCAA Tournaments, an Elite Eight, two Sweet 16s and 10 20-plus win seasons. Kreklow was recently named 2016 SEC Coach of the Year and AVCA Southeast Region Coach of the Year after completing a remarkable 27-6 season while advancing to the Sweet 16.
Before coming to Missouri, the Kreklows were co-head coaches of both the men's and women's volleyball teams at Columbia College. They enjoyed great success, taking their women's team to the NAIA National Tournament six times and winning consecutive national titles in 1998 and 1999.
In 1997 and 1998, the Kreklows shared NAIA/AVCA National Coach of the Year and Midwest Region Coach of the Year honors. In 1999, the coaching tandem took home the regional award for the fifth consecutive year. In 1998 and 1999, the Kreklows also received the NAIA National Tournament Coach of the Year award.
Wayne began coaching volleyball as an assistant under Craig Sherman at Missouri. He was with the Tigers from 1989 to 1994 before moving over to Columbia College to join his wife at the helm of the Cougar program.
