Women’s Basketball Travels to Indiana State on Friday

Tipoff at the Hulman Center is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcast online via The Valley on ESPN3.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The No. 25 Drake University women's basketball team travels to Indiana State on Friday night in Drake's first of two remaining road contests this season. Tipoff at the Hulman Center is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcast online via The Valley on ESPN3.

Drake is ranked No. 25 in The Associated Press' women's college basketball poll this week. Drake, which is 20-4 overall and 13-0 in Missouri Valley Conference play, is ranked for the first time since Dec. 3, 2001 and the 12th time in program history. The Bulldogs are off to the best-ever start in conference play in MVC history after their wins over Bradley and Illinois State this past weekend and are riding a 14-game winning streak. Drake is the first MVC team to be ranked since Wichita State on Feb. 11, 2014.

Against Bradley, the Bulldogs had five players score in double figures, led by senior Lizzy Wendell (Blue Springs, Mo.), who had a game-high 20 points. Every available player scored for Drake for the second-straight game and it is the eighth time this season that has happened.  Freshman Becca Hittner (Urbandale, Iowa) added 15 points and five rebounds versus the Braves. Wendell and Hittner were named the MVC Player and Newcomer of the week, respectively. They have each won their respectively weekly awards a league-high five times this season.

Indiana State is 12-11 and 6-6 in MVC games. The Sycamores are the league's top defensive team allowing 56.3 points per game while the Bulldogs are the top offensive team averaging 83.8 points per game. Indiana State held a four-point halftime lead in the first meeting of the teams in Des Moines on Jan. 22 before Drake rallied for the win. The Sycamores are led by third-year head coach Joey Wells.

Following Friday's game, Drake plays at Loyola on Sunday. Tipoff at Gentile Arena is set for 1 p.m.
