No. 25 Drake Plays Final Regular Season Road Game Sunday At Loyola

Following Sunday’s game, Drake hosts UNI in its annual Pink Game presented by Mercy Medical Center. Tipoff against the Panthers is scheduled for 7 p.m.

CHICAGO – The No. 25 Drake University women's basketball team plays its final road game of the regular season on Sunday afternoon when it takes on Loyola. Tipoff at Gentile Arena is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will be broadcast online via The Valley on ESPN3.

With the road victory at Indiana State on Friday night, Drake extended its winning streak to 15 games and improved to 21-4 overall and 14-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Bulldogs scored the first 10 points of the game and never trailed on the way to their ninth-straight road win.

Freshman Brenni Rose (Shawnee, Kan.) led all scorers with 15 points and knocked down a career-high four three-pointers. Joining Rose in double figures was freshman Becca Hittner (Urbandale, Iowa) and redshirt sophomore Becca Jonas (Independence, Mo.) who each finished with 10 points. Jonas pulled down a team-high seven rebounds while Hittner tallied a career-high three blocks.

Senior Lizzy Wendell (Blue Springs, Mo.) scored five points as one of the most impressive scoring streaks of all time came to an end in the win. Wendell had her amazing streak of scoring 10 or more points in a game come to an end at 102 games, a streak dating back to her freshman season. Her streak was the longest active streak in college basketball, ahead of Washington standout Kelsey Plum, who has hit the mark in 77-straight games. Wendell's scoring streak is the fourth longest all-time. Janel Lavender (2007-11) of Ohio State has the all-time record of 136 consecutive games.

With a win over Loyola (2-22, 1-12 MVC), Drake would match the longest winning streak in program history. The 1996-97 Drake team had a 16-game winning streak.

The Ramblers are on a 10-game losing streak with their last victory coming against Illinois State on Jan. 6. Loyola is under the direction of first-year head coach Kate Achter, who came to Rogers Park after one season at Xavier and five years on the St. Bonaventure's coaching staff. Junior Katie Salmon leads Loyola in scoring at 8.5 points per game.
