EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Drake University women's basketball team closes its weekend road trip at Evansville on Super Bowl Sunday. Tipoff at the Ford Center is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will be broadcast online via
The Valley on ESPN3 and on the radio on 1350 ESPN Des Moines.
In Drake's last game versus Southern Illinois, seniors
Caitlin Ingle (Runnells, Iowa) and
Lizzy Wendell scored 20 and 21 points, respectively, to help Bulldogs rally from a halftime deficit for a 71-60 win over the Salukis.
Drake has won 11-straight games and its first 10 Missouri Valley Conference contests to compile a 17-4 overall record and 10-0 mark in MVC action. The 11-game winning streak equals the longest streak for the program since the 2001-02 season. The perfect 10-0 start to league play matches the best start in Drake history since the 1997-98 team won its first 10 MVC games.
Drake trailed SIU at halftime by a score of 35-31, but battled back to tie the game at 50-50 at the end of the third quarter. At the start of the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs seized control of the game with an 8-2 scoring run that started with a basket by sophomore
Sammie Bachrodt (Wichita, Kan.) as they never trailed again to complete the comeback. Drake outscored SIU, 21-10, in the final quarter.
Bachrodt did a little bit of everything for Drake in the road win. She finished with six points, six rebounds, a career-tying six steals, four assists and one block. Freshman
Becca Hittner (Urbandale, Iowa) missed double figures with nine points and added five rebounds. Redshirt sophomore
Becca Jonas (Independence, Mo.) tallied seven points and eight rebounds. Ingle tied her career mark with nine field goals.
Evansville is 8-13 overall and 3-7 in MVC action after dropping its last game to UNI, 62-36. The Purple Aces trailed the Panthers by just two points at halftime, 26-24, but scored just 12 second-half points in the loss. Seniors Sara Dickey and Camry Williams average 14.9 and 14.8 points per game.
Following Sunday's game, Drake returns to the Knapp Center to host Illinois State on Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.
