MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Drake University women's tennis team lost at Marquette, 7-0, on Saturday at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point.
Marquette continued its momentum into singles and earned four consecutive straight set victories to secure the win.
The Bulldogs had a couple of bright spots with
Joely Lomas and
Tess Herder going three sets in their respective matches. Lomas claimed the first set, 6-1, but MU's Fleur Eggink managed to win the second set 6-3 and took the third set tiebreaker 10-5 to win court four. Paula Tormas cruised to a 6-0 first set win but Herder responded with a 7-6 second set victory. Tormas won the third set tiebreaker 11-9 to claim the final team point for the Golden Eagles on court two.
The Bulldogs will have a quick turnaround as they square off against the Milwaukee Panthers on Sunday at 1 p.m.
