COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Drake University men's golf team completed the first two rounds of the Tiger Invitational on Monday at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo. Through 36-holes, Drake is tied for seventh-place MVC-foe Northern Iowa, Central Arkansas and IUPUI.
The Bulldogs began the day with a score a 303 and finished with a 301 and are eight strokes behind third-place Austin Peay.
"With windy conditions, we played well the first round for about 12 holes, but struggled on the final six. In the second round, Drew [Ison] played great and scoring under par on the course today was impressive," said Drake head coach
Matt Lewis. "We are bunched up with a ton of teams and are tied for seventh, but only eight back from third-place."
After shooting a 78 in the first-round, junior
Drew Ison fired a one-under par 71 for a total score of 149 to lead the team and is tied for 16th-place. Sophomore
Tommi Avant carded a three-over par 75 and then finished the day with a 76 (151=75-77). Junior
Matt Lavery, who
led the team in the first-round with a two-over par 74, finished his day with a total score of 152 (74-76). Freshman
Kyle MacDonald carded a pair of 76s and is tied with Lavery with a total score of 152. Sophomore
Jack Kennedy rounded out the team's performance on the first day with a total score of 166 (86-80).
"Tomorrow will be a challenge but a great opportunity for us to finish strong before we head to the MVC Championship in two weeks."
The Bulldogs will play the final round of the Tiger Invitational on Tuesday as their final preparation for the MVC Championship set to get underway on Monday, April 24.
