NORMAL, Ill. – The Drake University women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision at Illinois State on Saturday.
 
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 2-0 by earning the doubles point and taking No. 6 singles by default. Tess Herder and Kenya Williams secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Gabriela Sprague and Valerija Gercar at No. 2 doubles.
 
The Redbirds got on the board with a straight sets win at No. 3 singles.
 
Herder put the Bulldogs ahead 3-1 with a dominating 6-2, 6-2 performance over Jelena Vejici at No. 2 singles.
 
The Bulldogs had their chances to clinch the match with Williams and Mela Jaglarz each winning their first set, but Illinois State managed to take the final three matches in three sets to come away with the 4-3 victory.
 
Drake will close out the regular season next weekend when it hosts Evansville on Saturday, April 22 and Southern Illinois on Sunday.
