DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's basketball team was recognized by the Iowa Senate for its outstanding 2016-17 season on Thursday, April 6, morning at the State Capitol.
Drake, which won the Missouri Valley Conference regular season and tournament titles, was invited to the morning session by Drake University Law School alum and State Senator Nate Boulton. Boulton introduced the team and listed off the individual and team on-and-off the court accomplishments. Boulton thanked them for being outstanding representatives of Drake University and Des Moines. Senate Resolution 15 was then passed honoring the team on its outstanding season and a standing ovation followed. Following the resolution, the team was greeted and congratulated by many of the legislators in the room.
Before departing the Capital, the team had the opportunity to meet with Iowa Lieutenant Governor, Kim Reynolds in her office. Reynolds shared stories from coming to games at the Knapp Center this past season and how proud and excited she was all season. She shared that her granddaughter has become a big fan of the Bulldogs and has a new love of basketball. Reynolds closed with a passionate thank you to the team for being such great role models for girls and young women.
