The No. 8 moment of the 2016-17 season comes from former goalkeeper for the Drake men's soccer team,
Darrin MacLeod, who concluded his standout career in 2016 as the all-time leader in several goalkeeper statistical categories. MacLeod finished his career as the all-time leader in games (76), minutes (6940:22), saves (308), shutouts (19) and wins (33). In addition to his success on the field, MacLeod earned All-MVC and All-MVC Scholar-Athlete honorable mention accolades in 2016.
MacLeod's soccer career will continue as he signed a professional contract with the Swope Park Rangers of the United States Soccer League on February 22.
"I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to play for Swope Park Rangers and be a part of the Sporting KC organization," MacLeod said in a release to announce his professional career. "During my time at Drake I was able to witness first-hand how the club operates and was impressed with its high standards and pursuit of championships. I can't wait to help bring this team back to the USL Cup Final and continue to grow as a player with such a great club."
MacLeod is the second former Drake men's soccer standout to sign a professional contract with a USL team in the past two seasons. Alec Bartlett (2012-15), a defender, signed with Charlotte prior to the 2016 season.
