Bulldog Top 10 of 2016-17: No. 9 — Men’s Basketball Beats Missouri State

www.GoDrakeBulldogs.com revisits the top moments of 2016-17.

The 2016-17 season featured many thrilling moments and accomplishments for Drake athletics. From conference titles, outstanding team and individual accomplishments, postseason appearances and significant regular season victories, the Bulldogs had plenty to celebrate as they look forward to the upcoming season. Before embarking on 2017-18, www.GoDrakeBulldogs.com will take a look back at the top 10 moments of the 2016-17 throughout the months of June and July.

The No. 9 moment of the 2016-17 season comes from the Drake men's basketball team clinching a 72-71 road-win against Missouri State on January 24, 2017.
Drake trailed by nine points with 13 minutes left in the second half but clawed away to pull within a point, 52-51, with 7:47 left on a T.J. Thomas jumper. The Bulldogs remained within striking distance until a jumper from Reed Timmer tied the contest at 64-64 with 1:43 remaining. Drake's defense stepped up on the ensuing possessions with Graham Woodward thwarting Dequon Miller's chance to win the game in regulation. The tandem of Woodward and Ore Arogundade held Miller to 5-of-18 shooting and 1-of-6 from the three-point arc.

Drake jumped in overtime with a three-point lead off of a basket by Nick McGlynn followed by a jumper by Woodward. The Bears then tied the game, 68-68, with 2:16 left in the overtime period. But this proved to be no threat for the Bulldogs as McGlynn answered with another basket followed by a drive from Timmer to give Drake a three-point lead with 16 seconds left. Strong defense on Drake's part, especially from Arogundade and Woodward thwarted the Bears' final second three-pointer attempts and preserved the Bulldogs' win.

This was the Bulldogs' first road win since January 28, 2015 and its first win in Springfield since 2001.
