CHESTERTON, Ind. - The Drake University women's golf team moved up one spot and finished tied for fifth place at the annual Missouri Valley Conference Preview, Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Sand Creek Country Club.
The Bulldogs finished with team rounds of 330-337-330–997 to sit even with Indiana State (338-333-326). Missouri State held on to its two-round lead and won the three-round event at 324-318-327–969 as the Bears finished two strokes ahead of second-place Bradley (320-323-328-971).
"This was a very challenging course was made even harder with high winds and cold weather," said Drake head coach
Rachael Pruett. "I'm proud of the ladies for fighting through tough playing conditions and doing the best they could with what they had this week."
Aimee Gerschke's (South Milwaukee, Wis.),
Kristen Giles (Georgetown, Ontario) and
Erica Olberding (Des Moines, Iowa) led the Bulldogs as the trio ended in a five-way tie for 13
th place with a score of 248. Giles shaved five strokes off her second-round total with a 79 Tuesday. UNI's Anne Gradoville and Bradley's Megan Medinger were the other two players in the tie.
Sigurlaug Jonsdottir (Hafnarfjordur, Iceland) was next for Drake with a T-25
th showing at 253 followed by
Sam Paulak (Kansas City, Mo.) at 266, good for 47
th place. Rounding out the Bulldogs' scores was
Grace Dunn (Brookfield, Wis.), playing as an individual, who finished 36
th with a score of 259.
"Considering we didn't play our best golf, I am pleased with our finish," Pruett added. "We know what we need to work on as a team and individually to be even more successful."
The MVC Preview completes the fall schedule for Drake, which will start its spring season, Feb. 9, 2019 at the Battle at Boulder Creek in Henderson, Nev.
