DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's basketball team opened the preseason with a 117-33 win against Dubuque Sunday, Oct. 28 afternoon in the first exhibition game at the Knapp Center.
Five Bulldogs broke double-digit point totals. Senior
Nicole Miller (Walker, Iowa) had a game-high 20 points behind 8-of-8 shooting, including making four three-pointers while junior
Becca Hittner (Urbandale, Iowa) followed with 19 points. Redshirt junior
Sara Rhine (Eldon, Mo.) and redshirt sophomore
Monica Burich (Roseville, Minn.) each had 13 points and junior Brennie Rose (Shawnee, Kan.) rounded out the five with 11 points.
As a team, Drake tallied 36 assists. Sophomore
Maddie Monahan (Silver Lake, Minn.) and senior
Sammie Bachrodt (Wichita, Kan.) each handed six assists to go with their three and eight total points, respectively. Hittner went 4-for-4 at the line but Bulldogs struggled as a team making 13-of-22 free-throws (59.1 percent). The Bulldogs shot 66.2 percent (45-of-68) from the floor and made 14-of-23 three-pointers (60.9 percent).
The Bulldogs return to the Knapp Center Nov. 3 for their final exhibition game against Pittsburg State at 5 p.m. Drake opens the regular season Nov. 7 against Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb with tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
