Football To Host Community Day vs. Stetson

The PFL leaders offer $1 tickets and $1 concessions available for Saturday

DES MOINES, Iowa - The first-place Drake University football team continues Pioneer Football League play Saturday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m. against Stetson University.

Saturday is also 'Community Day' for the Bulldogs with tickets available for $1 along with $1 concession deals. There will also be a special pregame Kids Zone adjacent to Drake Stadium.

Drake leads the all-time series, 3-0, and look to remain perfect against the Hatters who travel to Drake Stadium for the second time ever. Drake has outscored Stetson 113-35 in the previous three meetings.

Drake continued its dominance last Saturday with a 36-6 win over rival Butler University. The Bulldogs have averaged 43.0 points per game in their past three games, led by an efficient passing game and a dominant defense.

Drake's defense leads the PFL and ranks 15th nationally in total defense and eighth in scoring defense.

Grant Kraemer (Northridge, Calif.) has thrown for 300.7 yards per game in that stretch with 13 touchdowns. Steven Doran (Germantown, Wis.) had two touchdowns and 81 yards receiving yards Saturday, ending his streak of 100-yard receiving games. He is still averaging more than 97.0 yards per game this season and is leading the PFL in scoring.

On defense, the Bulldogs have held their last three opponents to just two touchdowns. In the win over Butler, Drake gave up 253 yards but was able to force turnovers at key points in the game. Nathan Clayberg (Pella, Iowa) earned PFL Defensive Player of the Week honors for his five-tackle performance, including four solo tackles and one sack.

The Hatters head to Des Moines following a 49-10 loss on the road against San Diego. Stetson touts a very balanced offense, averaging more than 240 yards passing per game and more than 200 yards rushing per game. The Hatters' receiving core is led by Donald Parham, who is averaging 110.3 yards per game.

The last time the two teams met, Drake won, 45-17, on the road in DeLand, Fla. to close out the 2016 season. Grant Kraemer threw for 334 yards, including four completions to future NFL player Eric Saubert, who led with 130 yards receiving in his final game as a Bulldog before being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons.

After facing Stetson, Drake hits the road to Ohio to take on Dayton on Saturday, Oct. 20 as part of two-straight road games.
