Volleyball Falls In Home Finale, 3-1

Bulldogs battle to take Missouri State to four sets.

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University volleyball team ended its 2018 home schedule with a hard-fought 3-1 loss to visiting Missouri State Saturday, Nov. 10, evening at the Knapp Center.

Missouri State defeated the Bulldogs by set scores of 25-22, 25-19, 23-25, 25-15 behind 27 kills from Amelia Flynn.

On its 'Senior Night,' Drake (18-13, 6-10 MVC) was led by senior Grace Schofield (Mundelein, Ill.) with 16 kills on 40 attempts and just one error as she continues to battle through injury. She also tacked on 11 digs.

Fellow senior Cathryn Cheek (Coppell, Texas) notched her 13th-straight game in double figures with 13 kills and had a double-double with 12 digs. Freshman setter Caitlyn Smith (Marion, Iowa) helped guide the offense with a career-high 46 assists.

Drake hit .277 in its third-set win to extend the match with Schofield and Cheek combining for eight kills in the set. Cheek's serving also keyed a 4-0 run that helped break a tie and allow Drake to pull away.

However, in the decisive fourth set, Missouri State (16-13, 9-7 MVC) rolled out to a 19-11 lead to push past the Bulldogs for the 3-1 victory.

Drake closes the regular season next weekend with matches at Evansville and Indiana State.
