Football Closes 2018 Campaign In Kentucky

Bulldogs trek to the hills of the Blue Grass state for the final game of the season

The Drake University football team travels to Kentucky to face Morehead State Saturday, Nov. 17, at noon CDT to close the 2018 season. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and on radio in Des Moines on Praise 940-AM

Drake (6-3, 5-2 PFL) played another stellar defensive game last week in its 13-10 win over Marist College. The Bulldogs held the Marist running game to negative nine yards on 32 attempts.

Junior safety Will Warner had another three interceptions to bring his season total to eight, which ties a Drake record for a single season. Warner's eight interceptions is the most in all of FCS football, and he also leads the nation with 223 interception return yards.

For his great play, Warner was named the STATS FCS National Defensive Player of the Week along with his second PFL Defensive Player of the Week award. Warner is not the only weekly award winner making the trip to Morehead State. Kicker Danny Donley was named the PFL Special Teams Player of the Week for scoring seven of the Bulldogs' 13 points, including the game-winning field goal, in the victory over Marist. On the season, Donley is a perfect 9-of-9 on his field goal attempts.

Morehead State (3-7, 2-5 PFL) is looking to end its season on a high note after hitting a rough patch the past few weeks. In their last three games, the Eagles have allowed an average of 53.0 points per game including 63 points last week against Dayton. However, the Eagles pass defense is the best in the PFL, giving up just 200 yards per game through the air.

The Eagles have been successful on the ground this season, averaging 200.0 rushing yards per game, but their offense hasn't been able to make up for a defense that is ninth for yards allowed in the PFL.

Drake leads the all-time series 8-3, but the Eagles are 3-2 at home against the Bulldogs. The last meeting between the two teams was a narrow 30-28 Drake win at home in 2016.
