Volleyball Dominates Indiana State To Keep Postseason Hopes Alive

Bulldogs to close 2018 regular season Saturday at Evansville

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Drake University volleyball team had three players record double-figure kills to sweep Indiana State, 3-0, Friday evening at ISU Arena.

The Bulldogs prevailed by set scores of 25-20, 25-19, 25-19, to remain alive in the hunt for the sixth and final spot in next week's Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

Drake (19-13, 7-10 MVC) hit .269 in the win with 49 kills to Indiana State's 32. Cathryn Cheek (Coppell, Texas), who earlier this season had a career-high 23 kills against the Sycamores, led the Bulldogs with 13 kills. Her 13 kills marked the 14th-straight match she has recorded double-figure kills and she added 14 digs for another double-double.

Elle Tubbs (Clinton, Iowa) had 11 kills, one shy of a career high, on just 22 attempts to hit .500 in the win. Callan Holmes (Lorena, Texas) had 11 kills for the Bulldogs.

Defensively, Kylee Macke (Ankeny, Iowa) had 17 digs to give her 501 this season, the eighth most in a single-season in program history.

Laura Gross led Indiana State (10-19, 3-14 MVC) with 12 kills.

The Bulldogs continue their trip to Indiana Saturday with a 7 p.m. match at Evansville. The Bulldogs need a win over the Purple Aces combined with a Loyola loss at Missouri State to earn the final spot in the MVC Tournament.
