Cheek Named To All-MVC First Team

Senior earns her second first team all-conference honor in as many seasons

Drake University senior Cathryn Cheek has been named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference Volleyball First Team, the league announced Thursday during its annual awards banquet. The honor is Cheek's second of her career.

A two-year standout at outside hitter for Drake, Cheek led the Bulldogs this season with 391 kills and is nearing a spot in the single-season all-time top 10 in kills. She finished the regular season ranked fourth in the MVC in kills with 3.76 per set.

She closed out the conference season in grand fashion, hitting double-figure kills in 15-straight matches with 11 double-doubles during that span.

Twice this season she recorded a career-high 23 kills including 23 kills against conference champion UNI.

Cheek and Bulldogs continue their season Thursday evening when they take on Bradley in the first round of the MVC Tournament is Springfield, Mo. First serve is set for 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
