The Drake University football team and Iowa State renew a series that dates back more than a century when the Bulldogs and Cyclones meet at Jack Trice Stadium Dec. 1. Kickoff at MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium is set for 11 a.m. in what will be the first meeting between the two programs since 1985.
The Cyclones will be Drake's 11th opponent of the season after both teams' Sept. 1 season openers were canceled due to severe weather.
Drake and Iowa State have not met since 1985 with the Bulldogs' prevailing, 20-17. The Dec. 1 meeting is the 70th between the two programs with Drake owning 17 wins over the Cyclones. Saturday's game will be Drake's first contest against an NCAA Division Football Bowl Subdivision program since Sept. 20, 1997 at USF. Drake defeated the Bulls in that game, 23-22.
The Bulldogs, a member of the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision and charter member of the Pioneer Football League, travel to Ames with a 7-3 overall record and a 6-2 mark in the Pioneer Football League to tie for second in the league standings behind league champion San Diego.
Drake boasts one of the nation's top FCS defenses as the Bulldogs rank eighth nationally in scoring defense (18.3 ppg), 13th in total defense (198.3 ypg), sixth in rushing defense (95.1 ypg), eighth in interceptions (16 INT) and seventh in tackles for loss (8.3 TFL/g).
