MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Drake University women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the of the season as the Bulldogs fell to Minnesota, 7-0, Sunday evening at the Baseline Center.
The Gophers managed to take the doubles point over the Bulldogs (6-1) with wins on court No. 3 and No. 2 respectively.
Tess Herder and
Liza Petushkova earned a 6-4 victory over Caitlyn Merzbacher and Mehvish Safder at No. 1 doubles was a bright spot for the Bulldogs.
"I am very proud of how Tess and Liza competed and kept their composure with a tough team. I think we had a very strong service games that helped us. We stayed aggressive and that match required a gritty performance. It was a great win for them," said Drake head coach
Mai-Ly Tran.
Summer Brills was the lone Bulldog to win a set in singles as she suffered a tough 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 loss to Caroline Ryba at No. 1 singles.
The Gophers went on to win the final six courts in straight sets.
The Bulldogs return to action Friday, Feb. 23 as they host Western Illinois.
