Timmer Earns Fifth Enterprise Bank MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week Honor

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Drake men's basketball senior Reed Timmer (New Berlin, Wis.) has been named Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, presented by Enterprise Bank and Trust Company, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today. Timmer, who was also named MVC Basketball Player of the Week, is honored for his performance from Feb. 12-18. This is the fifth scholar-athlete award this season for Timmer and the 19th for a Drake Bulldog in the 2017-18 academic year.

Timmer averaged 29.5 points per game in a pair of Drake wins by shooting 54.8 percent from the field last week, 45.5 percent from the arc and 93.8 percent from the free-throw line. He also added 10 rebounds and four assists on the week. He opened the week with a career-high 39 points in the win over Indiana State with an 11-of-19 performance including going 8-of-15 from the arc. Timmer's 39 points were the most by a Bulldog since 2015-16 and the second most since 1981 as well as being the top performance by a Valley player this season. His eight three-pointers were one off the school record and Knapp Center record.

Timmer followed his 39-point performance scoring 20 points in the road win at Missouri State that included a three-pointer with 1.8 seconds left to win the game. He was fouled on the shot and converted for the final four-point advantage in Drake's third-ever win in Springfield. Academically, Timmer owns a 3.47 GPA in Drake's doctorate of pharmacy program and is the two-time MVC Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Timmer and the men's basketball team face off Wednesday evening against Illinois State before concluding Valley play this weekend with a home matchup Feb. 24 against Valparaiso.
