Timmer Named First Team All-MVC

Senior ranks second in the MVC in scoring this season.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drake University senior Reed Timmer (New Berlin, Wis.) has been named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball first team, the conference announced Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Timmer's honor marks the first All-MVC First Team selection for Drake men's basketball since Josh Young during the 2009-10 season. This is the fourth consecutive year Timmer has been named All-MVC following a third team selection a year ago. Timmer was named honorable mention All-MVC following his sophomore season and was a member of the All-Freshman and All-Newcomer teams in his freshman campaign. Timmer is the reigning two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and has earned two selections to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team while collecting 12 MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards.

This season Timmer eclipsed 1,900 points while becoming Drake's all-time leading scorer passing Josh Young's mark from 2006-10. Timmer, who currently has 1,956 career points to rank in the top-20 in MVC history, also holds the school record for free-throws made with 537 and ranks fifth in three-pointers with 209. Timmer helped lead the Bulldogs to their most successful season in 10 years by shooting 46.7 percent and 43.3 percent from three-point range. Timmer ranks second in the Valley this season in average points per game (19.6), three-point field goal percentage (43.3 percent), free throw percentage (86.3 percent) and fourth in field goal percentage (46.7 percent).

Timmer and the Bulldogs begin MVC Tournament play on Friday, Mar. 2 as the No. 4 seed against No. 5 Bradley. Tipoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo.
