EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Drake University women's basketball team cruised past Evansville, 101-50, Friday night in Missouri Valley Conference action at the Meeks Family Fieldhouse.
Drake (17-7, 12-0 MVC) had six players score in double figures with
Sara Rhine (Eldon, Mo.) leading the team with 19 points.
Becca Hittner (Urbandale, Iowa) scored 18 points,
Maddy Dean (Walker, Iowa) added 13 points,
Sammie Bachrodt (Wichita, Kan.) and
Nicole Miller (Walker, Iowa) had 12 points each and rounding out the group was
Brenni Rose (Shawnee, Kan.) with 10 points.
Maddie Monahan (Silver Lake, Minn.) just missed double digits with eight points, but handed out a career-high nine assists. Dean flirted with a triple-double with nine rebounds and eight assists.
As a team, the Bulldogs made a program-record 20 three-pointers, shot 69.1 percent (38-of-55) from the field and held Evansville (3-19, 0-11 MVC) to just 33.9 percent shooting. Drake's shooting percentage is the second-best single game mark in program history. The previous three-point record in a game was 19, which happened last season in the regular-season finale over Wichita State.
The Bulldogs scored the first seven points of the contest, made 12-of-15 shots in the opening period and led 29-9 after one quarter. Rhine with eight points and Miller with seven points helped the Bulldogs' bench score 15 points in the opening period. Senior
Paige Greiner (Williamsburg, Iowa), who made her first career start, added three points. Drake extended its lead to 58-24 at halftime as the team made 23-of-30 shots, including 10 three-pointers and made 24 points in the paint. In the final two quarters, Drake led by as many 55 points.
Drake recorded 32 assists on 38 field goals, its bench scored 50 points and no Bulldog missed more than four shots. Eight different Bulldogs made at least one three-pointer with seven making two or more. Bachrodt and Hittner each knocked down four.
