DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's tennis team suffered a tough 4-3 loss to Iowa State Thursday evening at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

The Cyclones jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as they took the doubles point, winning on courts No. 3 and 2, respectively.

Iowa State went up 2-0 with a victory at No. 6 singles.

Joely Lomas got the Bulldogs on the board with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Erin Freeman at No. 4 singles.

Summer Brills tied the match up at 2-2 as she topped Maty Cancini 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.

The Cyclones regained the lead, 3-2 with a win on court No. 3.

Drake's Kenya Williams took the first set 6-2, but Margarita Timakova managed to win the final two sets, 6-2, 6-2 to clinch the Cyclone victory.

The Bulldogs will open Missouri Valley Conference play on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they host UNI.
