DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's tennis team came back to defeat UNI 4-3 Saturday afternoon at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
 
The Bulldogs went down 2-0 early after having to forfeit a doubles and singles match due to injury.
 
"Today was a whirlwind. I think it was very emotional with doubles and having Joely (Lomas) go down with an injury. We were also battling injury before the lineup and having different double teams play," said Drake head coach Mai-Ly Tran. "It was very emotional going into singles but I told the team, "We need to stay calm, collected and believe in each other."
 
Summer Brills put Drake on the scoreboard with a quick 6-1 and 6-2 victory in the No. 1 spot over Gisela Kemper. Kenya Williams picked up another point for Drake with 6-3 and 6-2 win at No 3.
 
UNI earned a win in the No. 4 spot to bring the score to 3-2. After dropping her first set 6-2, Mela Jaglarz came back to win set number two 6-3 and jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in her third set that allowed her to tie up the match.
 
Liza Petushkova narrowly won her first set in the No. 2 spot, 7-6, and just held on for a 7-5 victory pushing the Bulldogs past in-state rival UNI.
 
"I am really please on how the girls played and it was a great conference win," said Tran.
 
Drake will continue its conference schedule on the road April 7 against Valparaiso at 10 a.m.
