DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's tennis team is set to host Montana State and Grand Canyon this weekend. The Bulldogs square off against the Bobcats on Friday at 4 p.m. and the Lopes on Sunday at 10 a.m.
Drake is coming off a pair of road wins at Missouri-St. Louis and SIUE to improve to a 9-2 record this season. Senior
Summer Brills helped lead the team with a pair of straight set wins at No. 1 singles to be named Missouri Valley Conference Singles Player of the Week. Brills holds an impressive 8-1 singles record.
Freshman
Liza Petushkova leads the team with 10 singles wins and has been teamed up with senior
Tess Herder for a team-best 10-1 doubles record.
Montana State comes to Des Moines with a 3-5 record and earned a big 4-3 win over in-state rivals Montana in its last time out.
Grand Canyon will square off against Montana State on Saturday before taking on the Bulldogs. The Lopes took last weekend off after a trip to Honolulu, where they fell to Hawaii before defeating San Diego State. Kylie Waschuk leads the team with seven singles wins at No. 6.
The Bulldogs will take their spring break trip to southern California. Drake will face off against Cal State-Northridge on Wednesday, March 14 and UC Riverside on Friday, March 16.
