ELMHURST, Ill. – The Drake University men's tennis led the All-Summit League Team with five selections, while head coach
Davidson Kozlowski was named Coach of the Year, the league announced Thursday evening.
Juniors
Ben Clark,
Vinny Gillespie and
Tom Hands, sophomore
Barny Thorold and freshman
Finley Hall all earned All-Summit honors.
Clark and Hands both went 6-0 in league play and each have tallied a team-best 17 singles wins this spring. Hands leads the Bulldogs with 20 doubles win, while Clark has recorded 16 doubles victories.
Gillespie has collected 14 singles wins and recorded 14 doubles victories with doubles partner Thorold at the team's top doubles spot. Thorold has totaled 11 singles wins, including two at the No. 1 singles spot.
Hall, who joined the team in January, has recorded nine singles win and went 4-0 during league play. In doubles, the rookie from Wellington, New Zealand has posted 14 wins and a 5-0 Summit record.
Kozlowski, who was named Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year four times, adds Summit League Coach of the Year to his resume. He guided the Bulldogs to a 17-13 recorded and regular season conference title.
Drake opens the Summit League Tournament on Friday against Oral Roberts. The winner will advance to the league championship match on Saturday.
