BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Drake University rowing team made its first-ever trip to Buffalo, N.Y. for the 2018 Black Rock Cup Sunday hosted by Canisius College at the West Side Rowing Club. The Bulldogs competed against fellow Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference members, the host Griffins and Robert Morris as well as Rochester Institute of Technology. The teams competed on a 2,000-meter course on the Black Rock Canal.
 
"We raced hard today and I am really proud of how hard they prepared for this trip," said head coach Charlie DiSilvestro. "Obviously, we want better results, but it gives us a good idea of where we are with conference teams heading into the conference championship in two weeks. It was a worthwhile trip for us, but now we have work to do to get ahead and be ready for conference."
 
The teams battled a blizzard Sunday morning during the annual regatta. Plus, Saturday's scheduled practices on the water were cancelled due to high winds and the teams were forced inside for training.  
 
Following its trip to Buffalo, Drake will have a break before it travels back east to the 2018 MAAC Championship, May 13, in Cherry Hill, N.J. The winner of the MAAC Championship receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
