Women’s Golf Moves Up To Eighth On Final Day Of The Redbird Invitational

Bulldogs post the sixth best final round score to move up the leaderboard.

NORMAL, Ill. - The Drake University women's golf team recorded the sixth-best round of the day during the final round of the Redbird Invitational to climb into eighth place on the leaderboard after the third and final round of the tournament.

The Bulldogs carded a 308 to finish the three-round event with a total of 934 (321-305-308). Northern Illinois won the event with an 882 (296-288-298).

A day after recording her best score as a Bulldog with a 73 during the second round, Sigurlaug Jonsdottir (Hafnarfjordur, Iceland) posted a 2-over par 74 (38-36) during the final round to lead the Bulldogs. Jonsdottir's final round featured an even-par back nine and just two bogeys on the front side. She finished the tournament as Drake's top scorer with an 11-over par 227 (80-73-74) that tied for 14th individually in the 84 golfer field.

"Sigurlaug put together another solid round today," said Drake head coach Rachael Pruett. "After starting with a bogey, she was really patient and made 13 pars in a row."

Haeri Lee (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) continued to shave strokes off her score, finishing the final round with a 76 for a three-day total of 231 (78-77-76). Grace Dunn (Brookfield, Wis.)  also finished under 80 for the second-straight round, shooting a 78 on the final day for a three-day 233 (81-74-78).

Aimee Gerschke (South Milwaukee, Wis.) and Sam Paulak (Kansas City, Mo.) completed the scoring for the Bulldogs, shooting 247 (82-81-84) and 248 (83-85-80), respectively.

"Overall, it was a solid start to the season," Pruett added. "I know we can go even lower, and I look forward to getting back to practice before we head to Loyola."

Kristen Giles also competed as an individual for the Bulldogs and finished with a 240 (81-80-79).

The Bulldogs return to action next week at the Loyola Fall Invitational in Flossmoor, Ill., Sept. 17-18.
