Drake University quarterback Grant Kraemer (Northridge, Calif.) and safety
Will Warner (Pella, Iowa) have earned a pair of weekly Pioneer Football League honors for their efforts in Drake's dominating 52-12 win over Missouri S&T.
Kraemer was named the PFL Offensive Player of the Week for his record-setting passing performance against Missouri S&T. The fifth-year signal caller completed 14-of-16 passes for 359 yards and six touchdowns in three quarters of action. That performance helped the Bulldogs pass for 452 total yards in the win, just three yards shy of the school record for passing yards in a game.
His six touchdown passes equal a school record that he already matched last year along with Ira Vandever's six-touchdown performance in 2002. Kraemer completed touchdown passes of 58, 65, 6, 5, 50 and 12 yards with a long completion of 72 yards. Two of his first three passes in the win resulted in touchdowns to give the Bulldogs an early lead against the Miners.
Warner earned his first honor of the season in helping a defensive effort that limited Missouri S&T to just 175 yards of total offense, the second fewest surrendered by a PFL team this season. Warner got the defense in on the Bulldogs' scoring barrage with a 26-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. It was his second career interception return for a touchdown.
The Bulldogs will enjoy a bye this week before beginning the PFL season Sept. 29 at Jacksonville University.
