Volleyball Travels To MVC Leaders

Bulldogs to take on a pair of teams undefeated in MVC action.

The Drake University volleyball team hits the road for a pair of Missouri Valley Conference matches this weekend at league leaders Valparaiso and Loyola. The Bulldogs take on Valparaiso at 7 p.m. Friday evening and then travel to Chicago, Ill., to face Loyola at 7 p.m. Saturday evening. Both contests will be broadcast on ESPN+

Drake (12-4, 1-1 MVC) got back on track with a 3-1 win over Evansville Monday, Sept. 24., to even its conference record. Three Bulldogs hit over .500, including Cathryn Cheek (.533) who tallied 17 kills. Natalie Fry led the team in hitting percentage with an incredible .625 and also added four block assists to help the Bulldogs remain one of the league's leaders in blocks.

Valparaiso (16-2, 3-0 MVC) has won 10-straight games heading into this weekend with the team's last loss coming in a 3-0 sweep at No. 20 Michigan on the road.

Before facing the Bulldogs, Loyola (11-4, 3-0) takes on UNI on Saturday in Cedar Falls. The Ramblers are currently on a three-game winning streak including back-to-back sweeps over Indiana State and Missouri State to remain undefeated in league play.

Drake is currently in the top five of the MVC in kills per set (13.58), assists per set (12.74), digs per set (16.75), and blocks per set (2.31).

After this weekend's matches, Drake hosts a string of three home matches beginning with Bradley Friday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. followed by Illinois State Saturday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. The homestand concludes Monday, Oct. 8, against Indiana State at 6 p.m.
