In the 94
th minute (94:35), the Bulldogs' defense failed to clear the ball deep in their box and DePaul capitalized on the miscue as Timmy Iscra collected the ball, sent a pass to a hustling Simons, who slipped it past Brown far post for the comeback win. The Blue Demons' victory snapped a three-match winning streak by the Bulldogs.
"A hard-fought match this evening against a very good DePaul team," said head coach
Gareth Smith. "The game was in the balance with both team creating chances but we had the lead for a long period of time and should have seen the game out. However, we made two costly individual errors, that are uncharacteristic, and allowed DePaul into the game. We have a good balance of youth and experience in the team and unfortunately, we didn't show enough experience to close out the result. There are a lot of positive to take away and we will continue to build on what has been an excellent start to the season. Now we turn our attention to a tough game on the road at Western Michigan."
Following Friday's match, Drake travels to Kalamazoo, Mich. Sunday for a 2 p.m. matinee versus Western Michigan.
