A resilient and injury weakened Drake University volleyball team staved off multiple set points Friday evening before eventually falling at UNI, 3-0.

The Panthers' Taylor Karlie recorded 19 kills to help UNI hold off the Bulldogs by set scores of 25-18, 27-25, 26-24.

Emily Plock (Altoona, Iowa) continued her strong play for the Bulldogs with 11 kills and 10 digs for her sixth-straight game in double-figure kills. Gillian Gergen (Janesville, Wis.) also put in another outstanding effort with seven kills for the Bulldogs, who fell for the seventh-straight time to drop to 1-7 in the Missouri Valley Conference and 7-14 overall.

Kylee Macke captained the Drake defense with 23 digs in the three sets.

UNI (14-9, 7-1 MVC) closed the first set on a 9-2 run and scored the final four points of the frame to cruise to the 25-18 win in the opener. However, the Bulldogs led for the majority of the second set before Taylor took over for the Panthers and polished off the set with back-to-back kills after Drake twice withstood set point before falling 27-25.

The resilient Bulldogs engineered another lead midway through the third set at 15-11, but UNI responded with seven straight points behind Rachel Koop's serving and four kills from Taylor to take an 18-11 lead. The Bulldogs continued to scrap for each point, eventually tying the set at 21-21 and holding off two more set points before UNI prevailed 26-24 to take the set at the match.

The match was the first of four-straight for the Bulldogs as they travel to Evansville and Indiana State next weekend to continue the rigorous MVC schedule.
