Volleyball Heads to Indiana For a Set of Matches

Bulldogs in search of first road win of season

The Drake University volleyball team will continue its season on the road this weekend as it takes on Evansville, Indiana State, and Valparaiso. 

Over the last two seasons, the Bulldogs are 5-1 in road matches against those three opponents. The Bulldogs hope that history continues as they aim to get back in the win column this weekend. Drake enters the weekend with a 7-14 overall record and a 1-7 mark in Missouri Valley Conference matches.

Senior setter Paige Aspinwall paced Drake in its last outing, a three-set loss at UNI with a team-high 17 assists and 11 digs for her second-straight double-double and ninth of the season.

Junior libero Kylee Macke continues to climb in the Drake record books as her 23 digs at UNI moved her into sole possession of fifth in career digs at Drake with 1,473. She helps lead the Drake defense that ranks 14th in the nation in total digs this season.

Macke is poised to be joined on that list by Aspinwall, who needs just 19 more digs to move into the all-time top-10 in digs. Aspinwall already ranks fourth in career assists at Drake and has the potential to become the only Bulldog to rank in the top 10 of both categories.

Indiana State enters the weekend with a 4-14 overall record and a 2-6 mark in the MVC. When the Bulldogs faced the Sycamores earlier this season at the Knapp Center, the Bulldogs won 3-1 with 25 kills from freshman outside hitter Haley Bush. 

Earlier this season, the Bulldogs fell to Evansville 1-3 at the Knapp Center. Bush recorded 17 kills. The Aces enter the weekend 14-5 overall and 5-3 in conference. 

This will be the first time the Bulldogs face Valparaiso. The Crusaders have a 8-14 overall record and 3-5 conference record.
