Haleas Claims Title At MVC Women’s Tennis Individual Championship

Bulldogs close competition at the MVC Individual Championship

Sophia Haleas, a senior on the Drake University women's tennis team, claimed a Missouri Valley Conference Individual title Sunday afternoon during the final day of the MVC Individual Championship.

Haleas earned the title at No. 4 singles with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Bradley's Kristine Theys.

Haleas was one of two Bulldogs in title matches Sunday. However, at No. 2 singles, Liza Petushkova was upended by Bradley's Bozana Lojupur, 7-6, 3-6, 6-0.

In doubles action, the Drake team of Joely Lomas and Carmen Palumbo appeared in the finals of the No. 2 doubles flight but were defeated by Missouri State's Alons and Piskulic, 8-5.
