Women’s Golf in Third Place After First Day of Creighton Classic

Bulldogs close fall season Tuesday morning

OMAHA, Neb. - Two members of the Drake University women's golf team are on the top-10 of the leaderboard following the first day of the Creighton Classic at Oak Hills Country Club.

As a team, the Bulldogs carded a first-round 322 on the par-73 layout. UNI leads after the first day with a 303 while Creighton posted a 306.

"Today wasn't what we hoped for to start the tournament," said Drake head coach Rachel Pruett-Hornbaker. "We struggled on the front nine and put ourselves in a tough spot for the back nine. But I'm proud of the grit the ladies showed out there today. I knew they were struggling and they kept their body language positive to neutral. I know we can bounce back from today."

Leading the Bulldogs were Kristen Giles and freshman Abby Marting. Giles is tied for fifth with a first-round 77 while Marting is tied for seventh with a 78.

Reilly Krohe also competed as an individual and is tied for 18th with an 82. 

The second and final round of the Creighton Classic begins Tuesday at 9 a.m.
