The Drake University men's basketball has a short turnaround this week to host Kansas City at the Knapp Center Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. Mediacom MC22 is broadcasting the contest with streaming on ESPN+
The Bulldogs return to campus after an 81-59 defeat at Cincinnati Monday evening in which a first-half run by the Bearcats handed Drake its first loss of the season.
Anthony Murphy paced the Bulldogs in the loss with 13 points while
Liam Robbins scored 12 of his eight points in the second half. Murphy is averaging 12.0 points per game this season and is averaging 13.8 points per game in his last five games dating back to last season.
Kansas City is also 1-1 on the season after suffering a 69-51 loss to Oklahoma State after opening the season with a win over Avila. Brandon McKissic leads the Roos in scoring with 16 points per game and fellow junior Marvin Nesbitt Jr. leads the team with 7.0 rebounds per game.
The two teams meet for the fourth time in the last five years. Last year, Drake defeated Kansas City, 66-63, in Kansas City in a scrappy, hard-fought game in which
Brady Ellingson led the Bulldogs with 13 points. Drake leads the all-time series by a 6-2 margin.
Joining the Bulldogs and fans at the Knapp Center will be the 2020 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship trophy. Fans can view the trophy to be award to the national champion and take photos as the trophy makes its nationwide tour of college basketball arenas.
Following Wednesday's game, the team remains home to host Simpson Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.
