Volleyball Falls to UNI, 3-0

Bulldogs remain home next weekend to close the season

DES MOINES, Iowa - Junior Emily Plock continued her strong play with 13 kills and three aces, but it was not enough to push the Drake University volleyball team past UNI Friday night. The Panthers swept the Bulldogs, 3-0, by set scores of 25-18, 26-24, 25-17 to claim the season series and remain in first place in the Missouri Valley Conference standings.

In addition to Plock's team-high in kills, Kylee Macke had 20 digs on defense and Paige Aspinwall recorded 17 assists for Drake (9-20, 3-13 MVC).

UNI (21-9, 15-1 MVC) was led by 17 kills from Karlie Taylor and 13 by Kate Busswitz. The Panthers had 58 digs in three sets as their defense held Drake to just .106 hitting.

The Bulldogs nearly crept back into the match in the second set. After trailing early, Drake went on a 10-4 run to tie the match at 23-23. Plock had two of her kills in helping tie the match as Aspinwall was able to hold serve. However, the Panthers closed the set with back-to-back kills from Taylor to hang on for the 26-24 win.

Drake managed to play point-for-point in the third set until an 8-2 UNI run midway through the set separated the Panthers as they went on to take the set 25-17.

The Bulldogs remain home to close the season next weekend with matches against Loyola and Valparaiso. The weekend begins Friday, Nov. 22, against Valparaiso at 6 p.m.
