The Drake University men's basketball team hits the road for the first time this season when it visits Cincinnati Monday evening for a 6 p.m. CST tipoff against the Bearcats. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Ohio and on ESPN3 outside of the broadcast footprint.
Drake makes the trip after opening its 2019-20 season with a convincing 86-55 victory over Kennesaw State Thursday evening. The Bulldogs sank a school-record 17 three-pointers in the win and shot 58.6 percent from three-point range to defeather the Owls. Newcomer
Jonah Jackson led that barrage by going 5-of-8 from the arc for 15 points while preseason All-Missouri Valley Conference selection
D.J. Wilkins poured in 19 points with four three-pointers.
Roman Penn made his much anticipated debut in the Blue & White and posted a game-high seven assists along with 10 points.
Cincinnati opened its season with a 64-56 loss at No. 18 Ohio State Wednesday evening in first-year head coach John Brannen's debut on the bench. Jarron Cumberland and Keith Williams paced the Bearcats with 13 points apiece in the loss. Cumberland earned All-America honors last season and was the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
The Bulldogs and Bearcats meet for the first time since 1974. The pair were both members of the Missouri Valley Conference for 13 seasons from 1958-70 and the Bearcats hold a 22-8 all-time lead in the series.
