DES MOINES, Iowa - The Drake University men's basketball team heads to Ohio this weekend following a narrow Knapp Center victory, to play the No. 14/12 Dayton Flyers (7-1) on their home court Saturday, Dec. 14.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+, and on the radio at ESPN 1350. This will mark the fourth meeting between the two teams, but the first since 1962.
The Bulldogs (8-2) are back on the road after a tight 78-73 win over SEMO for the team's 10th-straight home win. Roman Penn (Calumet City, Ill.) continued his cross-court consistency with 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
DJ Wilkins (Merrillville, Ind.), sophomore at guard, was right behind Penn with 15 points. In a game dominated by shooting fouls on both ends, Wilkins performance was crucial for the Bulldogs going 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Another big performance came from junior Noah Thomas (Sydney, Australia), who had 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Thomas came out strong in the second half, almost single-handedly closing an 11-point gap with two steals, two layups, and a three pointer in the span of 50 seconds.
The Flyers, who are also undefeated in their home arena, have been led this season by sophomore forward Obi Toppin, who's season scoring total currently sits at 171. Toppin also leads with 66 rebounds and 11 blocks.
The team is coming off a road win against the Saint Mary's Gaels in which junior guard Jalen Crutcher saw a season-best performance with 21 points, four rebounds, and six assists.
Dayton's high powered offense is second in the nation in scoring at nearly 90 points per game. Meanwhile, Drake has held its opponents to just 60.7 points per game.
Following their bout with Dayton, Drake will return to the Knapp Center to face-off with the Mount Marty Lancers (12-2), with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
