Men’s Basketball Aims To Hold On To First Place Tuesday Evening

Bulldogs aim for season sweep of the Braves

The Drake University men's basketball team plays its next-to-last home game of the season when it hosts Bradley Tuesday evening at the Knapp Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+ for the clash between two of the hottest teams in the Missouri Valley Conference as the teams have combined to rattle off seven-straight wins.

The Bulldogs have won three-straight games and four of its last five to stand at 20-7 overall and in a three-way tie for first place in the MVC standings with Loyola and Missouri State. The 20 win season is the Bulldogs' sixth in program history and first since 2007-08.

Earlier this season, the Bulldogs defeated Bradley, 69-52 in Peoria in a dominating defensive performance by the Bulldogs while Nick McGlynn and Tremell Murphy each notched double-doubles in that win. Drake held the Braves Darrell Brown to just six points in that win, but since, Brown has gone off and recorded three 20-point games in the last four outings.

Brady Ellingson continues to lead the league in three-point shooting in league action by shooting 45-of-81 from the arc (.556). He has made three or more three-pointers in nine MVC games this season. Overall, he ranks fifth nationally in three-point accuracy at 48.3 percent. Inside, Nick McGlynn continues to nearly average a double-double in league play with 14.9 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. In his career, he ranks 23rd all-time in scoring and in the Bulldogs' last outing against Valparaiso, he became the program's all-time leader in blocks with 134.

The Bulldogs are 11-2 at home this season, the best home record of any Valley program and over the last two seasons, the Bulldogs have the second-highest home winning percentage in the league.

Following Tuesday's game, the team returns to the road to face Illinois State Feb. 24.
